Leominster Ransomware Case
In mid April, a small Massachusetts school district spent 2 weeks recovering from a ransomware incident that crippled their network. The school’s officials were forthcoming and transparent about their efforts to remediate and recover. Ultimately, the school was forced to pay because their backup devices were also encrypted. During the two weeks the school spent recovering, almost half of that downtime was spent trying to facilitate a cryptocurrency payment. With a staff of 900, that downtime was incredibly costly. We decided to piece together a more detailed analysis in a use-case study. Please enjoy!
